Final Multimedia Project

Image
This is my final multimedia project for my Writing for Digital Media class. It takes the form of an interactive poem making use of the platform Twine. My final assessment for how I approached this project is also in this post. Great Garden Final Assessment

Digital Accessibility and Future Ideas

Image
I think my best digital story was the one I had the most trouble in being the Web 2.0 hack. It took me quite a while to come up with the idea and some time to craft it into what I wanted. I think this story does achieve digital accessibility in a few ways such as lists and alternative text for instance. The story itself is a poem and that in itself I feel is a type of list. It is quick and easy to read and also looks more visually appealing rather than putting all the text together. A few images are accompanying the poem and are given text to describe what it is as well. The type of media my story was made to entertain and educate a little utilizing the aesthetic of a review on "Trip Advisor". It was a literary work that utilized maps and images. I remember learning about digital accessibility in a digital class which is the other half of this blog. I have kind of forgotten about it until now and how simple alternate text on an image can be very helpful and applying these kin...

Collaboration

Image
Collaboration is a very important part of the career I want to pursue in the terms of concept artists and the media they create. Concept art is made to inspire certain design elements but rarely is it the final product. Through collaboration with other media designers and animators, a final product is then developed. This is also the case with things like D&D rules and books. The concepts are a collective of player responses, reviews, and homebrewed content that if popular enough becomes official and makes its way into the final product. For example, a class for a D&D character was created by a player and was also inspired by "The Witcher" and was called Blood Hunter. This is now an official class for the game now    The use of digital tools allows for more collaboration and actually provokes it as well. Being able to get feedback from anyone or even allowing them to make their own contributions to the whole. The use of the digital medium allows for a much larger pool...

Custom Card Remix

Image
For my remix I am taking elements from the card game “Magic The Gathering”(MTG), “Dungeons & Dragons”(D&D), various pieces of art and combining them with some of my own personal elements too. It is not necessary to have knowledge of any of these subjects as my goal is more focused on the visual aesthetics and fitting something in a format where it was not originally found I take the format of MTG and apply it to characters from elsewhere. For my first two cards I created I based them off an old D&D character I created years ago. For the first card I found the art online and applied it to the card format and used elements from the D&D rulebook to make some abilities for the card. For the second card I uploaded the image of a model I personally worked on myself and just listed stats of the character according to the character sheet commonly used in D&D. My final 2 cards I made were for characters from a video game series called Diablo. I again took attributes of these...

Brainstorming Remixes

Image
I am still unsure of what type of remix I want to do that will relate to my blog. I do think I wanna try to do something visual if not completely visual. I have seen a couple remixes that have interested me before. The two examples include creative combinations of artistic and model rendering to make something new and interesting. Example 1: D&D Monster Fusions The first example the person takes random monsters from two different sources and combines them to make there own and does there own artistic rendering stealing aspects form both sides to make a completely new and interesting piece of media. Example 2: Warhammer Kit Bash In this example someone has taken pieces form various and different model kits to create new original eye-catching model As to what I will do I have yet to decide, I might try to continue an image story I did for another class where I took images of H.P. Lovecraft from his life time. I modified the photos of him more as he aged in each picture to kind of sho...

Self-Assessment and Future Writing

Image
So my two types of writing have both related to the theme of the Warhammer 40K hobby which works for me. The focus of the blog was for visual elements and design but seeing as this is a writing course it can be difficult to link that. These are the type of things I would like to do writing for though and create concepts and designs being the hobbies I enjoy. I already do writing for D&D and plan to start creating some character art for it as well. As a result the writing I have been doing has been with Warhammer 40K as a focal point.   I think for a future assignment I wanna try to do something relating to design work, concept art, and writing as a professional career and possibly relate to an interview I did a while back with a professional concept artist.

Great Garden

Image
I enjoyed the feedback I got as I was unsure how I wanted to present this subject. I wanted to talk about a fictional place from a hobby I am interested in. The subject was a place called Nurgle’s Garden which exists in the fictional universe of Warhammer 40,000. Some problems I had while creating my hack was that I understood my subject is obscure to mostly anyone who has not heard of or played Warhammer which could leave some readers lost. This is why I chose the poem method for my narrative. With a poem the subject can easily be imagined by using lots of imagery and the point I wanted to make was just to imagine this place and not have an exact description that might be hard to comprehend. It was an interesting technique to try and also a bit of a challenge and over all I am happy with the results.

Web 2.0 Storytelling Hack

Image
I have had trouble thinking of a idea for a storytelling hack using a web 2.0 hack. I think I finally have thought of something I want to try that coincides with some of the themes of my blog and uses a platform that is unusual but works well. I plan on using Tripadvisor  which a website that allows people to review and share there experiences about places all over the world. What I plan on doing is telling the story of a fictional place that does not actually exist but rather I will pick a place and use it as a metaphor to connect to a fictional realm. I am thinking of pulling a fictional place from the Warhammer 40k universe as I have already used that subject for my listicle as well. Warhammer is often so over the top I think it would be cool to try write about it as if it was a real place in Tripadvisor. In this way I am manipulating the presumed use of Tripadvisor by talking and telling the story of a fictional place on a platform that shows reviews and photos of real places i...

Web 2.0

Image
While I personally don't use social media myself such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram this blog still is a web 2.0 element in itself and utilizes interaction through various hyperlinks. My blog's focus is on visual and design elements that intersect with my hobbies and things I like such as the writing and stories written by the author H.P. Lovecraft. I have many hyperlinks within my blog to interact with whether they bring people other websites or pages or to some of the work I have done in digital media. Just recently with my listicle there is a link for each product or item on the list to make them easier to find and locate online. I have an ePortfolio that exist in the blog and might build upon that with other work I have done and include links to them. As I said I rarely use social media but in the future I could possibly see including info for Discord.

Listicle

Image
The hobby of Warhammer 40,000 can seem kind of daunting at first glance and understandably so. Warhammer 40,000 is a miniature wargame produced by Games Workshop. The game uses models, terrain, rolling dice, and using rules specific to your army. I am going to list some good beginner items to start with when just getting into the hobby. Also I believe these items go for any hobby involving models/painting as well not just Warhammer 40k. Most of if not all of these items can be found on Amazon. Model Kit To start you first need the physical model or pieces to build said model. This part is pretty self explanatory as the rest of the items on this list would be pointless if you don't have the plastic kit to use them on. Some models come in a plastic sprue while others come fully built and ready to start painting. There are different types of material that models can be made from. The most common are usually plastic and resin. I believe plastic to be the preferred material as it is mor...

Thinking On Listicles

Image
I am not set on what I want my listicle to be quite yet but I think I have a few ideas on what I want it to be. I have thought of doing a listicle on magic cards and looking at the most alien, weird, and scary-looking cards that fit a Lovecraftian/Cthulhu theme. I am choosing to do this as it blends one of my hobbies with looking at visual aspects. I have put a good bit of time, thought, and money into looking for these specific cards that fit maddening and strange aspects created by the Lovecraft mythos.     The criteria for these cards will include the name, the art, and the mechanics of the card. I will be looking for stuff that merely fits and not necessarily something that has a direct relation to a creature from Lovecraft's writing although that might occur.

Hello, this post is to introduce the Writing for Digital Media section of this blog so you may see some things repeated from the about page. In this section I will be discussing my focus a bit more in detail and how I want to merge my hobbies and passions into a worthwhile career. I will give my thoughts on the association between digital media and writing and also mention who some of my digital role models are. To start I wanna mention what my focus for a career is and how my hobbies and passions inspired me towards it. My dream job would be to work at a company like Blizzard designing the visual aspects of video games like doing concept art for instance. I have always been interested in creative aspects as my hobbies include painting/modeling, playing Dungeons & Dragons, playing video games, and reading. I would like to mention that over a few semesters of classes and greatly influenced by my playing of D&D is that I found that I greatly enjoy creative writi...
