Hello, this post is to introduce the Writing for Digital Media section of this blog so you may see some things repeated from the about page. In this section I will be discussing my focus a bit more in detail and how I want to merge my hobbies and passions into a worthwhile career. I will give my thoughts on the association between digital media and writing and also mention who some of my digital role models are.
To start I wanna mention what my focus for a career is and how my hobbies and passions inspired me towards it. My dream job would be to work at a company like Blizzard designing the visual aspects of video games like doing concept art for instance. I have always been interested in creative aspects as my hobbies include painting/modeling, playing Dungeons & Dragons, playing video games, and reading. I would like to mention that over a few semesters of classes and greatly influenced by my playing of D&D is that I found that I greatly enjoy creative writing and so I am also interested in a career for designing say plot aspects or level designs for video games as well.
I think writing is very important in digital media as it is usually there in some form whether it be writing scripts or discussing design elements with a team. I think writing more often than not is always behind the scenes in digital media. When playing a game and hearing dialogue from a character a script was written for that and then recorded by a voice actor. In graphic design, certain descriptions, elements, and desired ideas are given to the designer from an employer and then they transform it into a visual aspect.
A couple of my digital role models include people like Glenn Rane. Glenn Rane is a concept artist for blizzard studios who I got a chance to interview through chatting and who gave me a lot of valuable insight on the road to getting involved in that sort of career and some helpful tips to keep in mind. I have played most of the games he has created art for and I find all of his visual work to be very good and of the highest quality.
