JAHA Reflection

Hello everyone, I hope you all had an enjoyable break and a good holiday. I went back home for a couple of days for the holiday and it was enjoyable. After I got back I had to start working on a final project and am happy to say it is going well. Focusing on what is going on in this class, we just finished the JAHA project and must say it was an interesting experience. I was surprised as it was not as involved as I thought it would be. I find the process to be quite fast actually, the longest part of it seemed to be the scanning process. I am sure it would probably get boring after creating metadata for a while in one sitting. I think it is cool knowing the work we did is going to be used. The semester is coming to the end and with that approach finals which I have already been working on. For my final portfolio, they are a few things I do want to change on a couple of my earlier projects. I hope this week is fast as I kinda just wanna get my other finals over with and be done. Tha...

Metadata

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. My roommates and I had a successful Friendsgiving on the weekend. I got to hang out with a lot of old friends and play cards. Looking forward to this week we are creating metadata. I have never created metadata before and I agree the word itself sounds somewhat daunting. I have heard of metadata and also wanted to create it myself so this is a great opportunity.  I have a sneaking suspicion that this week is going to be a long and slow week with Thanksgiving break approaching, as well as the end of the semester. For this week I plan on working on the metadata obviously and one of my other final projects I have to do. For my portfolio, there are a couple things I do want to change. The podcast is the thing I am not sure how to change as I can't really record again from scratch but I could possibly add something at the end to connect it to my brand. That's all I got to say for now, thanks for reading and good luck on all of ...

JAHA Project

Image
Hello!!! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Our cross-media campaigns are finally completed except for any revisions that will be made. Moving on to the JAHA digitization project I am curious as I have never made anything like this before. I think making meta-data will be an interesting project as it does seem like a good skill to have. I don't actually know too many details about the Johnstown Flood so this project will most likely give me more information on that. I'm gonna be honest in that I don't really have too much to say about this week besides that it will be somewhat busy for me. Some goals for me this week are to work on a final project I have and to work on the new project we have just received in this class. Another thing I want to get done this week starts making some returns for a couple of products that I have been putting off, one being a laptop. It's almost Thanksgiving which I am not a particular fan of but the break will be kinda nice, so that is...

Editing The Recording

Image
The semester is quickly approaching its end and with that, I am happy to say that I got my schedule all planned out for next semester. With what we are doing in class I have finished the base recording which I will build off of and edit. I know a lot of people probably feel the same way about this but for whatever reason I feel so weird hearing my own voice. Surprisingly I had a difficult time recording as I would always mess up my words and in general, could not talk. In my opinion, it would have been easier to say everything in front of a group of people than recording it, not sure why. I am not ecstatic with what I have right now, of course, that is just the raw recording with a couple cuts here and there; hopefully when I add music and other effects it will be a lot cleaner. I just used audacity for my recording but I am curious to see what you guys used and I might be inclined to try them in the future. Audacity works fine but it seems very plain to me. Thanks for reading...

Start of Podcast

Image
I have made my plan for my podcast however there are still a few details that can be changed. I am doing the podcast on the book The Dunwich Horror. This book is one of my personal favorites and I thought it would be interesting to choose a different book other than Call of Cthulhu. I thought maybe I could add some story telling elements when telling the summary of the story to make it more entertaining. I am planning on messing around with the music a lot. I have not recorded for a long time so this week I will probably do a couple test runs of it. I am still brainstorming for an interesting title for the whole podcast and the episode title as well. I might include my brother in the podcast as he has some knowledge on this book as well and I do want another person other than me speaking if possible. My next steps this week are to create titles, test recording, read the story again and create my own summary for it. Thanks for reading and if you guys do have any ideas for my p...

Podcasts

Image
Hello everyone, I hope everyone had a great weekend. We are about to move into the next project and I am not sure where I stand on it. I love listening to podcasts and it is just a great thing to listen while you are working on stuff. The podcast I listen to on the regular is The Last Podcast On The Left . They are a strange group but I find them hilarious and I recommend anyone interested to listen to maybe one of their recordings. They talk about disturbing stories and conspiracies and are very comical. I enjoy podcast but I am not sure how I feel about doing one as I don't think I have the best radio voice. Nonetheless, I think it will be entertaining to see other people's videos and listen to other peoples podcasts. I am fairly positive I will be doing my podcast one of H. P. Lovecraft's books. I have done a couple of YouTube videos before and sometimes I am just not a fan of my voice and I just feel weird when I hear it in a video or recording. Hopefully this ch...

Photo Essay on H. P. Lovecraft

Image
Hey everyone, this is my Photo Essay project. Just wanna say that I was excited to use Photoshop and at the same time was somewhat lost while working on this. It took me a bit to figure out what I was doing but I think I am happy with the results. I have been wanting to use Photoshop more for drawing specifically so most of the edits I did were freehand. My topic was the author's writing career as he grew up. H. P. Lovecraft 9 years old Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890.  Around 5 and a half years old Lovecraft started having nightmares that would, later on, appear in his writing. Lovecraft first started his literary works at the age of 7 dealing with poems that restyled the Odyssey and other mythological tales. At 8 years old he had developed an interest in the sciences, mostly in astronomy and chemistry. H. P. Lovecraft 25 years old Lovecraft started out as a potential journalist and joined the United Amateur Pre...

Flyers and Picture stories

Image
Another week has gone by and for me they are all going by quite fast. Last weekend I finished my flyers so I am looking forward to getting some feedback on them as I am not sure how I feel about them. I have seen other people's flyers and from what I have seen they all look pretty well done. The picture story project is still somewhat of a conundrum for me as I do not have a concrete plan for it. I know that I do want to use Photoshop for it and I have one idea that I mentioned in my update last Friday that I am most likely going to try first. For my picture story style, I believe I want to go for the deliberate and heavily edited style. For my goals this week I want to refamiliarize myself with Photoshop whether that means just playing with or watching some more tutorial videos before I dive into the software again. I think I also want to come up with a backup idea for my picture story if my first one doesn't go to plan. Well I think that is all I have to say for now, I lo...

New projects

Image
Hello, everyone, we are all most halfway through the semester and with that said I hope everyone's semester is going well. For me personally it has been going really fast. Aside from that, we have been given a few new projects. Prezi I don't mind using but I can't say I'm a huge fan of it. I am also using it for another project and from there on if I have the option I am probably going to avoid it. The corpus analysis was interesting to do as I have never done one. It was cool to see the word cloud and the phrases that are used a lot in a piece of writing. I have not started on the flyers yet for the classes as I am not sure what software I want to use. I am thinking I will use Photoshop as I have been wanting to use it more and get better with it as this is the software I am going to use for drawing. Relating to that the reason I wanna start drawing in Photoshop is that I started an online course for character art and drawing. I hope to improve my skill in character ...

Working on Infographics

Image
I am excited for this week as we will be going over infographics and doing workshops. My other class have is also going other infographics as well so I have learned a lot about them recently. At first, I did not really know what an infographic was but after looking at some examples I figured it out. I finished my draft for my infographic on H. P. Lovecraft. At first, I was all for the bestiary idea but there are just way too many monsters in his books to compile them all. As I said in my last update I was going to change it but was not entirely sure what it would be about. In the end, I decided to focus on the writer and the type of writing he does and not so much the monsters. I was not sure if I needed graphs or data like that so that is something I hope to get feedback on and was also not sure if I was limited to one page or not so I did 2. As of right now, I am ok with where it is, however, I did forget to put my logo in the draft, I will add that in the finished version. Feedb...

Zines

Image
For my project, I am choosing the topic of H.P. Lovecraft. As I have stated before in my previous posts like with my logo I am very interested in H.P. Lovecraft, his works, and the mythos and creatures that exist within his stories. My logo was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and Cthulhu so I thought I might as well make it the topic of my Zine. I have a decent idea of how I am going to do each part of the zine. For the title page I will put H. P. Lovecraft at the top and I will include an image of Cthulhu, one of his most well-known creations. In the introduction I will go other the author himself and some of his works. The infographic might be a bestiary that shows images and names of monsters from his books. The corpus analysis will have a chunk of his writing from one of his stories he wrote. This should not be a problem as all of his works are public domain now. For the picture story, I thought I could have images of a convention for H. P. Lovecraft. As for the podcast and video, I ...

Logos and Ideas

Image
I am very excited to start designing a personal logo this upcoming week. I have tried using the free apps I have available but unfortunately, I can not get what I want exactly. I plan on using my three initials IML for part of my logo. I am using these initials not only because it is part of my name but it also was used as a nickname for me by my family. I plan on putting these initials in the center of a round eyeball. I am really interested in H.P. Lovecraft and his stories and I try to incorporate this Lovecraftian theme into a lot of things I do like painting and such. So for my logo, I am going to try to have a green Lovecraftian eyeball and instead of a pupil in the center it will be my initials. If this logo works out I thought about animating it if I ever use it in media like YouTube. If it was animated at some point in time I would have it be the eyeball with pupil at first then it would blink once and my initials will be there in place of the pupil. I am eager to star...

2nd Week

Made it through my first week of college and it is not so bad, although the labor day weekend was kinda confusing off the first week. As you can all probably tell my blog has been visually updated from before, I am quite happy where it is right now. Blogger is becoming more familiar to me now and I feel a lot more confident in these blog posts. I am excited to design my own logo as I like graphic design, but I never felt I was good at it. There are a few concepts in my head for a logo I might use. Looking forward to workshopping some of these ideas and interested in seeing other people's logos.
