Logos and Ideas
I am very excited to start designing a personal logo this upcoming week. I have tried using the free apps I have available but unfortunately, I can not get what I want exactly. I plan on using my three initials IML for part of my logo. I am using these initials not only because it is part of my name but it also was used as a nickname for me by my family.
I plan on putting these initials in the center of a round eyeball. I am really interested in H.P. Lovecraft and his stories and I try to incorporate this Lovecraftian theme into a lot of things I do like painting and such. So for my logo, I am going to try to have a green Lovecraftian eyeball and instead of a pupil in the center it will be my initials.
If this logo works out I thought about animating it if I ever use it in media like YouTube. If it was animated at some point in time I would have it be the eyeball with pupil at first then it would blink once and my initials will be there in place of the pupil. I am eager to start learning how to use new tools in Adobe when we go to make and design our logos.

Update 9/12/19
I have taken the feedback I was given on my logo drafts and used it to make my final logo and I am quite happy with it. I combined the design of two of my drafts into one. I was told that my initials looked like eyelashes and made the logo look more like an eyeball. I did not notice this at first but I liked so I kept that part. The tentacles were added to the final draft to get the Lovecraftian and Cthulhu theme I was going for however I made them more symmetrical. In this logo, I wanted it to be more symbolic than text and I believe I got that with this design.

Fresh off the top of my noggin' I love the animation aspiration. I think if you could have the eye blinking with your initials, that would make for an incredible touch. After a quick read through your post this week, I am excited to see where you plan on taking this idea. I think incorporating both a visual logo with type-lettering would make for something pretty unique, especially with the design you're aiming for.
ReplyDeleteI also love the flow and motion of your blog Ian! I am already seeing major improvements from the first post. I would would on your grammar a bit when it comes to certain phrases, I think you can make things a little cleaner, but other than that your blog seems to be in tip-top shape! Keep it up.
I really liked your idea of having the eyeball with your initials in it instead of the pupil. I think once you find a program you'll be able to an awesome logo that will be very distinct from anyone else logo. Also the animation aspect would be awesome as well. Even if you animated it you could make it into a gif and have it always posted on your blog and every few seconds it would blink. Theres just so many things you could do with it. I really enjoy your idea and can't wait to see the final logo.
ReplyDeleteYour logo is awesome! I like how you wanted to incorporate H.P. Lovecraft! He is also one of my favorite authors! I do like the color scheme as well! It was a good choice! I do think putting the initials around the eyeball would be cool as well! It has your own spin to it and adding some animation to it would be AWESOME!! I have seen a lot of YouTube channels add some animation to their own creations and they are one of my favorites! I love seeing other peoples work like this and then they put into some sort of animation! I hope you plan on doing more H.P. Lovecraft type of logos or animations.
